Art Classes
We offer a variety of classes using different mediums. It is our goal to help you find which one is best suited for you and discover your own unique style. The classroom is fun and relaxing so that you will have the best experience possible. We keep the class sizes small so that Pat, our seasoned artist of over 40 years, can spend individual time with each student.

Good to Know
At Poiema Studio Gallery, we have made available a few options that make enrolling and getting ready for your class more convenient. You can purchase a single class where you bring your own supplies for $55, or choose from one of our money saving packages that include supplies and varies numbers of sessions.
When purchasing paint and brushes, it's good to know a few things. Brushes and paint vary in price based on the brand, size & quality. We recommend that if you are new to painting that you pick a brand that is in the middle. Not too expensive but not too cheap. However, if you know that art is something you want to keep doing, consider getting higher end products. Lessor quality brushes and paint can make painting more difficult and therefor less enjoyable.

Acrylic Painting Art Classes
Acrylic paint is water-based fast-drying paint and is one of the most versatile mediums. It is more affordable than oil paint and is less intimidating than other complex mediums. Because of its quick drying time, it allows the artist to make changes to their work almost immediately.
Abstract Art Classes
ab·stract art - noun
Art that does not attempt to represent external reality, but seeks to achieve its effect using shapes, forms, colors, and textures.
There is much freedom and relaxation to be found when painting abstract art. In these classes, you will be guided through each step using color and design principles. We encourage students to let go and paint expressions from within.

Children's Acrylic Painting Class
Acrylic paint is water-based fast-drying paint and a great medium for children to start for with. We would love to partner with you to help your child grow in their desire and ability to paint. Having a firm foundation helps to ensure the art student grows and develops good habits that lead to good art.
Oil Painting Art Classes
Oil paint is made of pigment ground in oil, and is known for its flexibility and depth of color. Oils can be applied in different ways from thin glazes diluted with turpentine and/or applied as dense thick layers. Since it is slow to dry, artists can continue working the paint longer than other mediums.
Watercolor Art Classes
Watercolor paint is made with a water-soluble binder and thinned with water rather than oil, giving a transparent color.
Starting with a pencil sketch and moving into adding color, you will be taught tips unique to watercolor painting. As in other mediums, watercolor brushes and paper are made specifically for watercolor paint.
